How Your Well Water System Works
When you turn on your tap, a coordinated system ensures your water flows smoothly. Well water is stored in a pressure tank within your building, maintaining typical water pressure between 40 and 60 psi. As water is used, the pressure drops. Once it falls below 40 psi, a pressure switch activates your submersible pump. This pump efficiently moves water from the well into the pressure tank until the desired pressure is restored, at which point the pump automatically shuts off. A vital safety valve on the pressure tank is designed to release pressure if it exceeds 75 psi.
